Dawn Summers came in from school, “Buffy?” she called as placed her book bag and jacket on the cabinet by the door.

“I’m in here, Dawn.” She heard her sister call.

She walked to the kitchen and found Buffy stirring something on the stove,

“You hungry?” Buffy asked.

“A little, I guess. What d’ya make?”

“Soup, and I didn’t make it so much as got it out the packet and put it in the saucepan.” She smiled over her shoulder at Dawn.

“I have to go patrolling tonight, so I wanted you to eat before I went. Xander’s coming over to watch you.”

“Cool.” Dawn shrugged.

“I might be home late, depending on the vamp action, I want you in bed by 10.” She told her sister in her sternest voice.

“10? Oh, come on! 11?”

“10:30 and that’s my final offer.”

“Fine.” Dawn said, defeated, as she helped herself to some soup.

********************************************************************

When it got dark and Xander had come over Buffy headed for the graveyard. She did a couple of quick sweeps and then settled on the cemetery wall, waiting to see if any of the fresh graves would have any vacancies.

********************************************************************

Dawn and Xander ordered a pizza and watched TV. By 10:30 they had eaten the lot and watched a movie.

“Ok, Dawnster, Bed.” Xander told her.

“Oh, come on Xand, I’m not tired.” She insisted as she fought a yawn.

“Yeah, well, its still bed time. Ok, I’ll tell ya what, you can stay up ‘til 11 but if Buff comes in you go straight upstairs, k? Don’t feel like getting my ass kicked for you not getting up for school.”

“It’s a deal.” Dawn smiled.

“You want a drink, Xander?” Dawn asked a little later.

“Sure, whatever you’ve got is fine with me.”

They heard a knock at the door and Xander got up, “You get the drinks, I’ll get the door.” He instructed.

Dawn went into the kitchen to get a couple sodas.

Xander went to the door and opened it, no one was there.

He peered into the darkness.

“Hello?” He took a step outside and was instantly grabbed roughly by someone.

He spun round to face the attacker,

“Drusilla??” He gasped.

“That’s right, little boy. The stars say I can’t go in, but you can invite me.”

Xander knew he couldn’t, but still wasn’t going to take any chances with Dawn inside.

“Sorry, you’re names not down, you’re not coming in.” He said, trying to hide his fear.

“Ooohhh.” Drusilla moaned, suddenly on the verge of tears. “I never received the invite…” She said, quietly, gazing into the darkness.

Her insane way of talking unnerved him even more than the fact she was a vampire.

“You’re mean.” She announced, with that she backhanded with all her strength, the last thing he remembered was the porch floor coming up towards him, then there was darkness.

********************************************************************

Dawn walked back into the living room to find it empty, “Xander…?” She called softly.

She saw the front door wide open, and cautiously walked towards it. She saw someone sprawled on the floor,

“Xander!” She ran outside and to his side. She felt for a pulse, it was still there, but as she shook him he wasn’t responding.

A shadow fell over her, she looked up to see Drusilla over her.

She didn’t know who it was, having never actually met her.

“Uh, please, please help…” She began.

“You’re not a little girl. You’re not human.” Dru said, her head tilted to one side.

“Uh…” Dawn was shocked, who was this woman and did she know she was The Key??

“Sshhh.” Drusilla soothed, “I’m not human either…” She said sadly, as she transformed into her vamp face.

Dawn got up and tried to back away, Drusilla blocked the way into the house, so she started down the steps of the front porch.

“Who-who are you?” She stuttered.

“My names Drusilla, lil’ girl. What is your name?”

Drusilla!! That name rung a bell in Dawns head all right, Spikes ex.

“Uh…I’m Dawn.” She managed as she backed away.

Drusilla was by her side in an instant, “My new dolly thinks she can run away…” The insane vampire babbled.

“No! I wasn’t- I was just…”

Dru grabbed her arm roughly, “Lets play a game!” She said simply as she pulled Dawn off down the street.

********************************************************************

Spike sat in the corner of The Bronze. He had a beer in his hand he watched couples dancing to a song that played.

He could smell the people, could smell their blood, pumping around their bodies, heating up as they moved closer to each other. His stomach gave a little growl,

“If it wasn’t for this sodding chip!” He said angrily to himself. He swigged his beer and then threw the bottle against the wall. As he got up he noticed a few waitresses were looking over, alarm on their faces at his outburst. He ignored them and made his way out of the Bronze.

*******************************************************************

Buffy watched and waited as she saw the dirt on a fresh grave begin to be moved, not long after that two hands popped up, they clawed there way out of their grave and stood up. The guy had to be at least 40, he had been buried in his best suit and was busy brushing himself off when Buffy leapt off the wall and landed next to him.

“Hi,” She greeted.

The vampire growled,

“That’s rude!” Buffy scolded. The vamp swung for Buffy but she ducked, came back up with a backhand to his ugly vamped out face and followed through with a roundhouse kick. The vampire, still disoriented from just waking up, stumbled back. He seemed to think better of fighting his strong opponent and bolted in the other direction.

“Oh no you don’t.” Buffy called as she ran after him. She ran along side him, jumped onto a headstone and powered herself off it and into the vampire.

He grunted loudly and scrambled up. But Buffy was up first and plunged her stake into his unbeating heart. The vamp looked in disbelief at the stake then back at Buffy before crumbling into a pile of dust at her feet.

“I’m thirsty.” She said to herself and headed to The Bronze for a drink.

********************************************************************

Spike made his way back to his crypt, turned on the TV and settled down to watch Passions.

*******************************************************************

Drusilla was still dragging Dawn when they arrived at their destination.

The Mansion.

“I like to play with my dollies.” Drusilla told Dawn as she threw her against the wall and started to chain her to it.

“Why di-did you come back?” Dawn asked.

“For my Spikey of course.” She giggled. Dawn had a major crush on Spike and did not like the thought of this crazy vamp being after him.

“But he didn’t want you when you came back before….he wanted Buffy.” Dawn said carefully. Drusilla’s head snapped up from where she was chaining Dawns feet,

“Don’t say such rubbish!” She ordered Dawn. Dawn thought she had better not say anything else about Spike right now.

“Why do you want me?” She asked

“You’re special. I can see that, you know.” She looked Dawn directly in the eye.

“I’m n-not.” Dawn stuttered. “I’m j-just a kid.”

“Oh, but you’re not.” Dru told her. She scratched Dawn across the cheek with her long nails. Dawn cried out in pain as she felt the blood trickle down her face. Dru ran her finger over the cut and then licked it,

“You taste special.” She told her. “I can tell, don’t go telling lies now lil’ girl, I don’t like naughty dollies.” She ran her fingers through Dawns hair.

“When I kill you my Spikey can drink from you, then he’ll know he’s a bad dog, I’ll show him.”

Dawn shuddered.

“Spike wouldn’t –” Dawn began. Dru pulled he hair, making Dawns head snap to the side.

“Are you saying I don’t know what my Spike likes? I’m his princess! When I give you to him, he will drink.”

“No!” Dawn said strongly, though she was terrified.

“Ooohh..” Dru moaned, again she seemed as though she was on the verge of tears. “You will have no cakes! You are a naughty little girl!” She yelled at Dawn.

She then turned on her heel and walked off into another room in the mansion.

Dawn shook her chains but it was no use, “Buffy, please help me.” She prayed out loud.

*******************************************************************

Buffy sat at The Bronze bar with a coke in front of her, slaying sure made her thirsty.

She listened to the song playing,

//Finally found what I been looking for//

//Now ya know I’m gonna love you more//

//Hold me tight, cos its always been you//

Buffy listened to the lyrics, finding them oddly comforting.

//To think that you were always there//

//To be my friend and wipe away my tears//

//Now its clear that its always been you//

She was suddenly aware of something stirring, the thing that happened when there was a vamp close by, her “Spider sense” as she liked to call it. She slowly stood up and then felt a hand on her shoulder, she spun around, just about to whip her stake out of her pocket when she saw who it was,

“ANGEL??” She asked, shocked.

“Hi. We need to talk.”

“About what? What are you doing here?” She asked, “I mean, hi.” She added lamely with a smile.

“This is serious Buffy. Cordy had a vision, Drusilla’s back in Sunnydale.”

Buffy's face registered surprise and then anger,

“Again? She came back not very long ago. Can’t she understand this is my town?” She asked. “What did Cordelia see?”

“Uh…” Angel hesitated.

“Tell me!” Buffy insisted.

“She saw her at your house, on your porch…” He looked her straight in the eye. “Talking to Dawn.” He finished.

*******************************************************************

Buffy ran home as fast as she could, Angel right at her heels. They got there and saw the door was wide open,

“Oh, God!” Buffy ran up to the porch.

“Xander…?” She said as she saw the lump on the floor, “Xander!” She dropped down next to him, felt a pulse and shook him. He groaned painfully.

“Look after him.” She told Angel as she ran into the house.

“Dawn?” she called. She scanned the living room, ran to the kitchen, through the dining room and bolted up the stairs.

She flung Dawns bedroom door open, “Dawn??!!” She called again. She wasn’t there. “DAWN!!!” She screamed, trying to hear if she was anywhere else in the house.

She ran back down the stairs, Xander was conscious and Angel was just helping him up.

“What happened?!?!” She asked Xander, already knowing the answer.

“Drusilla.” Xander said, groggily, “She’s back in town.”

********************************************************************

Spike finished watching Passions and got out of his armchair. He started pacing back and forth. He hated it when he was cooped up in his crypt – fine night like tonight he should be out there, fighting something. When he was alone it gave his heart a chance to speak, and the only word it could say right now was Buffy.

He was heart broken that she had rejected him but he wasn’t all that surprised.

“What did you expect, you nancy boy?” He asked himself, “That after years of trying to kill her and making snide comments and generally pissing her off that she would declare her bloody love for you?”

A secret part of him thought she might. That once she realised he hade done those things out of love that she would realise her feelings for him too. Stupid as it sounded.

He looked over at his Buffy mannequin,

“Why not Buff?” he asked it.

“You and Angel were alright, except for his curse, and I don’t have that problem.”

The doll just stared back.

“At lease *I* can get a shag without turning all evil. I might already be evil, but at least you’d know I’d be the same bloke after as I was before. Except I’d be happier.”

He didn’t hear the real Buffy outside his crypt, she came up and heard him talking to someone, she figured she’d listen, see if Dru was in there.

“We’re perfect for each other, Slayer. I can fulfil your bad boy need. I knew you were never really happy with Captain Cardboard; all he ever did was moan about his problems. There’s you all worried about your mum and he’s saying you don’t pay enough attention to him! Then you’ve got the thing about nibblit to worry about – couldn’t tell anyone about that.”

He continued to pace as he talked, but every now and then would stop to direct the questions and statements right at the mannequin.

Buffy listened outside, she was touched by how much thought he had given to the Riley and her situation.

“He had you.” Spike said, getting frustrated.” “He had you! And he let you go – sodding idiot left you! He had the most beautiful girl…but it wasn’t enough for him. Bloody ponse!” He yelled.

“That’s what I think of him now.”

He spun round to face Buffy.

“Uh...Buffy!” The look of shock and guilt almost made Buffy laugh.

“I was just, uh-” He began.

“I don’t have time! Dru’s back She has Dawn.”

“Drusilla’s back? Again?” He asked, then the last bit sunk in, “She has Dawn?!”

Buffy nodded. “We have to find them. Angel came back, Cordy had a vision of Dru & Dawn. We have to split up, Angels checking the East side, I got West, you’ve got the places you used to hang out, got it?” She said sternly.

“Alright. I’ll find nibblet.” He grabbed his coat and a stake and walked out the crypt with Buffy.

*******************************************************************

Drusilla swept back into the room.

“I’m a little hungry.” She admitted, looking at the floor as though she was ashamed.

“I could take a little bit.” She told herself. He choice of words struck a nerve in Dawn, “lil’ Bit” That was Spikes nickname for her.

“No!” Dawn cried out. “Please…”

“Oh, shhh, it won’t hurt…” She looked at Dawn, an evil smile played on her lips, “…Much.” She came up to Dawn, he human face melted as it was replaced by the demon. Dawn tried to pull away but there was nothing but wall behind her.

She closed her eyes as Dru sunk her teeth into her neck, she yelled out in pain.

She felt the blood down her shoulder as Dru’s mouth pulled away.

“Nummy…” Drusilla said, blood all over her mouth.

Dawn felt drained, she was feeling weak now.

“Spike will be pleased.” Dru clapped her hands together.

“No…Spikes changed…he doesn’t l-love you…” Dawn spat out.

Drusilla grabbed her face roughly to make her look at her,

“You talk to much, mummy doesn’t like it.” She let Dawns face go and turned around.

With her back turned to Dawn she pulled a knife out of her sleeve, then turned to face Dawn, grinning like a crazy person.

*******************************************************************

Spike ran into The Factory, avoiding the unstable parts of the burnt floor.

“Drusilla?” He called.

He couldn’t see her so he made his way out of there. “If you hurt her I’ll kill you!” He said under his breath.

********************************************************************

Dawn’s face was frozen in horror at the sight of the knife.

“What-what are you doing? If you cut me there won’t be any blood for Spike!” Dawn said, thinking on her feet.

“I won’t drain it all with this little knife, just want to hear the flowers sing.” She smiled.

“Spike will kill you!” Dawn suddenly said, not even sure herself where it came from.

“Spike wouldn’t hurt his princess.” Drusilla said, more to convince herself.

“He was going to before, he would’ve killed you for Buffy.”

“He was confused, I know what to do though. If he feeds on you it will show him what he’s missing, he’ll forget all about that nasty Slayer…and I’ll find a way to remove his chip!” Drusilla promised.

“No…Spike wouldn’t!” Dawn insisted.

“I don’t like you very much.” Dru announced. She came closer to Dawn, the knife glistened in the dim light.

“No…please…” Dawn closed her eyes.

Dru slashed the blade lightly across Dawns stomach.

“Ssshhhh, bad doll!” She scolded as Dawn cried out in pain.

********************************************************************

Spike ran into The Factory, he could hear someone in pain, and could smell blood.

He hid round the corner,

“….He’ll forget all about that nasty Slayer…and I’ll find a way to remove his chip!”

He heard Dru telling Dawn.

“No…Spike wouldn’t!” He heard a desperate and scared Dawn.

“I don’t like you very much.” Dru said, then he was aware of Dawns fear growing.

“No…please…” He heard the teen beg. Then she cried out.

“Ssshhhh, bad doll!”

That was it, he couldn’t take this, **Dru can break my heart, fool around with chaos demons, even choose Soul-boy over me, but no one touches nibblit!** He thought to himself, his anger growing.

*******************************************************************

Dawn pulled on her chains, knowing it was no use. Her neck hurt, it felt bruised as well as the actual wound, her stomach was cut, and her face was scratched.

“Drusilla?”

Her head snapped up at the sound of the familiar British accent.

**Spike! He’s here to rescue me!** She thought, relief filling her entire body.

“Spike?” Dru smiled, and turned to face her ex. “I saved you some, Spike!” She said happily.

Dawn thought for sure Spike would tell Dru it was never going happen, but she looked in horror as Spikes face changed from his handsome human face, to his yellow-eyed demon face.

“Spike…” Dawn looked at him, her heart breaking as she saw the look of amusement on his face.

“Can’t have the Slayer, have to settle for her sister, won’t we, luv?” He smirked at Drusilla.

“She’s special Spike, her blood, it’s powerful.” Dru tilted her head to the side as she looked at Dawn.

Spike moved up to Dawn, and put his arm around her shoulder,

“Easy on the eyes, too, Pet.”

“She is a pretty dolly.” Dru agreed.

Dawn looked at Spike, her eyes wide and pleading.

“Lets have a taste,” Spike said, he motioned for Drusilla to join him. They both leaned in, Dru about to bite the other side of Dawns neck, Spike about to lick the wound from Dru’s precious attack.

Dawn heart felt like it was beating out side her chest, as they got closer.

As Dru was about to pierce her skin a hand shot through the air and connected with her jaw.

She stumbled back, caught off guard. She held her cheek and looked at Spike.

His fist was still in the air.

“Sorry, but no one touches this girl.” Spike told her. Dawn felt tears coming as her body began to relax again.

“Spike? Don’t you love your princess?” Dru asked, tears welling up.

“Yes I do. But you’re not my princess anymore, there’s someone else in my heart now.” He said firmly, no longer ashamed.

“Get out of sodding Sunnydale, or I’ll kill you myself.”

Dru’s face went from hurt to anger, she charged forward, knocking Spike over with her. They fought for a while, Drusilla doing her chick fit nail-scratching thing, Spike dodging the nails and getting a good punch in every so often.

Finally Dru swept Spikes feet from under him, then kicked him in the face as he fell to the floor. Spike grunted and was aware of the blood in his mouth.

Dru marched over to Dawn and backhanded her. Dawn cried out as her head hit the wall.

“This is your fault!” She screamed at Dawn. Then she brought the knife back out, she lifted it up high and plunged it down. As it was about to enter Dawns stomach Dru crumbled into dust, a look of total shock on her face, and the knife clanged to the floor.

Spike stood behind her, a stake in his hand.

“Spike!” Dawn cried out. She smiled and tears were streaming down her face.

“You alright lil’ bit?” He asked.

“Yeah, I think so, it hurts but…you saved me.”

Spike unchained her and then she was in his arms, hugging him like there no tomorrow.

“Whoa, nibblit, you’re safe now.” He told her reassuringly.

She pulled away from him, he was looking at the pile of dust at his feet.

“She’s gone.” He said simply.

“Yeah…” Dawn agreed, not sure how to comfort him.

He looked like he would cry if he stayed another instant.

“Lets get you to a hospital, kid, get you all patched up.” Spike put his arm around Dawn and helped her out as she limped.

********************************************************************

“Buffy? It’s Spike. I’ve found her.” Spike said into the receiver.

“Oh my God, is she Ok?” Buffy asked.

“Yeah, few cuts and bruises though, we’re at the hospital.”

“I’ll be right there.”

Buffy hung up and looked at Angel,

“Spike found her. She’s OK.”

“Good. That’s good.” He nodded. “I guess I’d better be going.”

“I guess so. I really appreciate you coming Angel, if I had just come home later I might not have found her.”

“Its Ok. I worry about Dawn too.”

“I know. Thank you.” Buffy smiled.

“Ok. I’ll be heading back to LA then.” He turned slightly but then hugged Buffy. She was taken by surprise but hugged him back.

“I was really worried about her…and you.” He said quietly. “I couldn’t let you lose Dawn too.”

He pulled away and then he was gone in an instant.

Buffy made her way to the hospital.

********************************************************************

Dawn had a bandage over her stomach, a patch over her neck and a plaster over the scratches on her face. She pulled her T-shirt and made her way to the waiting room. She found Spike there, his head in his hands.

“Spike..?” She said gently as she placed a hand on his shoulder. He jumped at her touch, forcing her to pull away.

“Oh, sorry, lil’bit. Didn’t hear you.” He looked up at her. “Sure made a mess of you, didn’t she?” He attempted to smile.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had to kill her for me.” Dawn sat down next to Spike.

“Anyways, they say I can go home now.” She said.

“Just gotta wait for…” He saw the Slayer racing down the hall, “...Buffy.”

“Dawn!” Buffy ran up and wrapped her arms around her sister. Then she pulled away slightly, inspecting the damage.

Her eyes rested on Dawns neck, “She drank you?”

Dawn nodded.

“I’ll kill her!” Buffy said as she hugged dawn again.

“Not necessary.” Spike said quietly.

“Yes, it is. She can’t go around kidnapping my sister…beating her up…biting her and not expect – ”

“Buffy…she’s dead.” Dawn broke in.

Buffy frowned, “What? How?”

“You’re the Slayer, you should know. Stake through the heart did it.” Spike said bitterly.

“You…?” Buffy asked.

“Yeah, he had to. She was about to stab me, but Spike dusted her.” Dawn informed her.

“Oh.” That was all Buffy could say – and she knew how lame it sounded.

“Can we go home now?” Dawn whined, exhausted.

********************************************************************

They reached the Summers house, Buffy with her arm around Dawn to help her.

Buffy re-invited Spike in. He stayed downstairs while Buffy helped Dawn get undressed and into bed.

A few minutes later she came down stairs,

“She was out like a light, poor kid.” Buffy commented.

Spike was sat on the couch but got up when Buffy came in.

“Sun’s gonna be up soon, I should go.” He told Buffy.

He made his way to the front door.

“Thank you Spike.” Buffy said suddenly. He turned at the door to face her.

“I know what killing someone you love is like…or someone you used to love. But you did it for my sister…for me. Thank you.” She moved closer to him.

“I knew I had too. I told you before…I’d kill her for you.”

“I know. I’m sorry it came down to that…that you had to…but it shows how much you care for my sister…how much you love me.” She looked up into his blue eyes.

“I do love you.” Spike said, his eyes moved to the floor.

“I know. I’m sorry that I don’t feel the same way right now, but you really mean a lot to me.” She said sincerely.

She put her hand on his leather coat and pulled him closer to her,

“I think you’ve earned this,” She whispered, her breath felt good against his cheek. He missed that.

There lips met and they kissed. Buffy was surprised how tender he was with her, not like his “Big Bad” attitude he put on. She pulled him down to her, kissing him hungrily now. He responded by kissing her back passionately.

Eventually she pulled away, both were panting, though Spikes wasn’t because he was short of breath. She smiled at him, “Goodnight Spike.”

He smiled back, almost shyly, “Goodnight Buffy.”

THE END
