The History of Buffy and Spike What we know Spike and Buffy first meet in the Season 2 episode School Hard. We learn that Spike has killed two Slayers and that he intends Buffy to be the third. He first sees her in the Bronze where she is dancing with her friends and he tells one of his minions to go and feed so that he can watch her fight. After Buffy has dusted the vampire Spike tells her that he will kill her that Saturday, the night of St. Vigeous. It seems that he can't wait though. Spike crashes Buffy's parent/teacher night and comes close to killing her, only to be hit over the head with an axe by Buffy's mother. The next time we see Spike is in the episode Halloween where he is intently watching a video tape of Buffy fighting in order to study her tactics. He learns that someone is coming on Halloween who will make her weak. This occurs when a spell turns Buffy into her Halloween costume, an eighteenth century noblewoman. Spike comes close to killing her again but is foiled when the spell is broken and Buffy beats him. In Lie To Me we see Buffy taking advantage of Spike's main weakness, his girlfriend Drusilla. Buffy threatens Dru's life in order to save a group of vampire worshippers from being killed by Spike and his gang. Events take a dramatic turn in What's My Line? Spike captures Angel and sends a group of assassins after Buffy. Spike needs Angel's blood in a ritual to restore Dru back to full health. When Buffy discovers this she prepares herself for the final confrontation with her and Spike. The fight ends with Buffy dropping a church organ on his head and leaving him and Dru for dead. In Surprise we see that the organ incident has left Spike confined to a wheelchair and badly scarred by fire. Dru is back to full health. Spike is very different here, quiet and depressed. He just wants to leave Sunnydale but Dru has other ideas. She wants to raise The Judge, a powerful demon who literally burns the humanity out of people. Buffy and Angel try to stop them but are forced to flee. After Buffy and Angel sleep together he loses his soul and becomes Angelus once again. As soon as he turns he seeks out Spike and Dru and rejoins them. This snaps Spike out of his depression and is instead filled with jealousy. Angelus flirts constantly with Dru and taunts Spike about his weakness. He implies that he and Dru are sleeping together which she doesn't deny. As soon as Spike gets his strength back he seeks out Buffy and offers her a truce.
He will help her beat Angelus and stop him destroying the world in exchange for him and Dru being allowed to leave Sunnydale. Buffy agrees. However, once Spike has Dru he backs out of the deal and leaves Buffy to what looks like certain death at the hands of Angelus.
