ACT 1

Shot of the sun rising with old snarled tree branches and tombstones resting on the landscape in the foreground.

Shot of Spike’s house. Closer shot shows Buffy and Spike asleep together in the porch swing. Buffy is curled up on Spikes lap his arms are around her and his head is resting on top of hers.

Close up of Buffy. There’s a small content peaceful smile on her face. The camera closes in on her face. A voice is heard from the lawn.

Voice: Buffy? Buffy wake up!

Buffy opens her eyes and looks in the direction of the voice. She sees Tara on the front lawn. She’s dressed in tea party type apparel, frilly dress, straw hat and sitting at a table with a white table cloth and tea pot and tea cups. Buffy gets up with out even taking notice to where she is getting up from. She stands and leaves her real body which is still sleeping in Spike’s arms.

Buffy: Tara. What are you doing here? And… how come no one told me there was going to be a party?

Looks down at her black leather pants and leather coat.

Buffy: Because I am so not dressed…..

She sees whats behind her out of the corner of her eye and turns around and is now standing directly in front of her and Spike asleep together.

Buffy: Uh….Weirdness Alert…

She turns back around. Tara looks at her with a confused expression.

Tara: Buffy come quick, you have to see this.

Buffy turns side ways and glances once again at her and Spike and then hesitantly descends the rickety stairs and walks over toward Tara.

Buffy: What is it?

Tara: Well, I’m not quite sure.

As Buffy approaches the table she sees that Tara’s eyes are red and swollen, she looks very pale.

Buffy: (alarmed) Tara what’s wrong…are you okay? Have you been crying?

Tara: No, it’s either a cold or allergies. But I think it’s allergies, I have them really bad this time of year.

Buffy nods sympathetically. She then looks down and sees that there are Tarot cards lying on the table in front of her. There are nine cards in all three to a row they are facing toward Buffy. She sits down. The teapot is to the side of them. Buffy moves the teacup and saucer out of the way at her place so she can see the cards better. The cards have pictures of different shots of people and places on them.

Buffy: What…are these?

Tara: I’m not sure… but I think this is the past, (points to the first row of three) This is the present (points to the 2nd row) and this is the future. (points to the 3rd)

Buffy reaches out and touches the first card of the past it is a picture of her and Giles in the library.

Buffy: (small smile forms) I remember this day…this is when Giles and I met…(looks at Tara) the first time, at the school.

The card is still lying on the table but suddenly the scene inside begins to move.

Shot of the Card, the first shot is of Giles.

Giles: You really have no idea what's going on, do you? You think it's
coincidence, your being here? That boy was just the beginning.

Buffy: Oh, why can't you people just leave me alone?

Giles: Because you are the Slayer. (comes down the stairs) Into each
generation a Slayer is born, one girl in all the world, a Chosen One,
one born with the strength and skill to hunt the vampires...

Buffy: (interrupts and joins in) ...with the strength and skill to hunt
the vampires, to stop the spread of their evil blah, blah, blah... I've
heard it, okay?

The card stops on Buffy’s face. Buffy looks up at Tara dismayed.

Tara looks just as dismayed.

Buffy: A…more weirdness…

Tara nods and then suddenly sneezes. She grabs a petite hanky from her lap and wipes her nose.

Buffy: Bless you.

Tara: Thank you.

Buffy reaches over and touches the second card. It is a picture of Dracula it begins to move.

DRACULA: I have searched the world over for you. I have yearned for you. (Sits on the bed next to her) For a creature whose darkness rivals my own.

Shot of Buffy sitting up on her bed looking anxious and vulnerable.

DRACULA: We are alone.

He reaches for her to bite her. She gasps.

DRACULA: Always alone.

He bites down hard, she closes her eyes.

Buffy removes her hand from the card as if it just burned her and shudders.

Buffy: Not particularly caring to remember that one.

Tara just nods.

She touches the third one, it’s a close shot of a police officer it begins to move.

Police officer: Put your hands on your head! Do it!

Shot of Buffy She stares at his gun, frightened, and begins to raise her hands. Suddenly the gun gets kicked out of the officer's hands. He gets kicked in the face and in the shin, then grabbed and thrown onto the hood of his car, where he lies unconscious. His attacker faces a surprised
Buffy.

Spike: Hello, cutie. (smiles)

Scene cuts to the park. Spike takes a step toward Buffy, and she immediately decks him twice in the face. He grabs her by the shoulders to restrain her, but she brings her knee up into his gut.

Spike: Now, you hold on a second!

He gives her a good shove away from himself. She reaches into her coat
and pulls out a stake. Spike jumps back and holds up his hands in
surrender.

Spike: Hey! White flag here. I quit.

Buffy: Let me clear this up for you. We're mortal enemies. We don't get
time-outs.

The scene changes a bit but it is still her and Spike in the park by the police car.

Spike: I can't fight them both alone, and neither can you!

Buffy punches him hard in the jaw, making him flinch. He straightens
back up and feels his jaw, checking for blood.

Buffy: I hate you.

Spike: And I'm all you've got.
The card stops moving. Buffy turns around and looks back again at her and Spike on the porch.

Shot of them in the swing. Buffy stirs a bit in his arms which causes Spike to wrap is arms around her more tightly. Buffy snuggles and moans contently.

Shot of Buffy watching this in alarm.

Buffy: Now that’s just….disturbing. (but the very slight look of longing that forms on her face doesn’t relay that it’s disturbing)

Tara: (frightened) Buffy quick look at this one!

Buffy turns and looks at the card Tara is now touching. It is the first one in the row of the present.

The scene begins to move it shows Willow and Giles and Xander and Anya walking together in the street towards the Magic Box.

Xander: Well that was quite a of night of slaying we had there… thanks to my little woman here. (puts his arm around Anya and looks down at her proudly)

Anya: Oh…it was nothing….really (trying to sound modest but not really working)

Willow: I need to hurry and go home to check on Tara…I think she left early because she’s not feeling well. I’m afraid I gave her my cold I had last week…not on purpose … of course.

They approach the door of the Magic Box and are all suddenly ambushed by a large group of Knights of Byzantium. The Knights form in a half circle around the group of Scoobies trapping them against the store front. Giles picks up his crossbow to aim and Xander picks up his axe and holds it threateningly in front of him, Anya and Will hide behind Giles. All the knights raise their swords in response. There are about twenty of them.

Knight from the middle facing Giles.

Knight: I’d surrender if I were you… there’s more of us then this.

Giles looks around and spots Gabriel. He is one of the Knights in the circle holding a sword on them. Giles puts the cross bow down and raises his hands in the air. To Xander.

Giles: Xander, put the axe down.

Xander: Come on Giles (looking macho) we can take them.

Xander brandishes the axe at the crowd. The Knights hold their stance.

Giles: (pointedly) Xander, I said, PUT THE axe DOWN.

Xander puts the axe down on the ground unwillingly and raises his arms.

Xander: Still think we could of taken them.

The card stops moving. Buffy looks up at Tara they both are alarmed.

Buffy: Tara, you don’t think….

Tara: (frightened, nods) It had to of happened last night, after I left.

Buffy: So is this your dream or mine?

Tara shrugs

Tara: (looking worried) I don’t… know.

They touch the next card together. It’s a shot of two of the knights standing at the front door of the Magic Box. They slip a large envelope into the mail slot on the door and briskly walk away.

Startled Buffy sees the next card and says.

Buffy: Tara look, this one’s a picture of Dawn!

They touch the card, it begins to move. Shot of Dawn, she has a bowl of cereal in front of her that she’s not eating but really sort of playing with.

Shot of Cordy.

Cordy: (encouragingly) Come on eat up, you're gonna need those Wheaties if you plan on keeping up with me on Rodeo today.

Dawn looks up at Cordy, there’s a sad look on her face.

Cordy: What’s wrong?

Dawn: Nothing, I just had this really weird dream last night.

Cordy is fixing her coffee. She reaches for the sugar across the table which is in front of Dawn. Dawn goes to pass it but before she can it slides to Cordy on it’s own.

Cordy: To thin air. Thank you Dennis, but remember what I said about guest and not wanting the give them the heebie jeebies?

Dawn: It’s okay, Dennis is cool.

The sugar slides back towards Dawn it raises itself in the air and sprinkles more sugar on her cereal. Dawn smiles. She puts her hand to her mouth as if to shield what she’s about to say to Cordy from Dennis.

Dawn: And kinda cute.

Cordy: What…you can see him?

Dawn: (surprised) Yeah..can’t you?

Cordy shakes her head no, Dawn shrugs.

Cordy: So anyway, you were telling me you had a bad dream?

Dawn: It was nothing.

Cordy: Sometimes it helps though if you tell someone else about it.

Dawn: Well, I had this dream about being in the desert. It was me and Buffy and Spike and there’s this huge army of knights standing in a circle all around us. And Giles and Xander and Willow and Anya were in there. And you and Gunn were there too. Any way, Buffy and Spike are standing behind me holding this glow ball thing between them and I’m in front of them with one of the knights who has his shield in front of me and he’s telling me to use my mind to open this door that is off in the distance..you know from us. And next to the door, I see Glory and then that just scared me so bad..I woke up.

The card stops moving. Buffy and Tara look at each other.

Buffy: All these things….they’re happening now..aren’t they?

Tara: (nods) I think so…

Buffy: Which means…(an expression of alarm and panic form on her face) Quick what do the future cards show?

They quickly go to the first one. It has a picture of Glory dressed in her usual designer silk red original, standing in the middle of the desert.

They touch it but it doesn’t move.

Buffy: It’s not moving like the others did.

Tara: Try this one.

They go to the next one, it shows Buffy and Spike riding along a highway somewhere in Giles car. They touch it, it doesn’t move.

Tara looks confused.

Tara: Maybe this one?

They go to it. It’s a shot of a white unmarked van. Gunn can be seen driving it and Cordy is in the passenger seat. They touch it and sort of pound on it but it doesn’t move either.

Buffy: Why aren’t these moving like the others?

Tara: Maybe because they haven’t happened yet.

Buffy looks at Tara. She starts to say something but is interrupted by a voice in the background.

Voice: Buffy, over here honey.

Buffy turns, it’s Joyce. She is standing next to a tree off to the side of the porch her and Spike are sleeping on.

Buffy turns back to Tara.

Buffy: Tara hold on, I’ll be right back.

She gets up and walks over to her mother. There’s a smile on her face.

Buffy: Mom, I’m so glad to see you…but, it’s not really a good time, I really need to wake up, something’s happening to Giles and the gang and Dawn and it’s all so confusing….

Joyce: I know all about that sweetheart but first, I came to show you something.

Buffy still walking towards her mother.

Buffy: Okay, but whatever you do, just don’t look over there.

Her head motions towards the scene where her and Spike are sleeping. Joyce just continues to look at Buffy.

Joyce: Come on, it’s around here. (She holds out her hand to Buffy, Buffy takes it)

Joyce walks around the big tree, Buffy follows and suddenly finds herself in the desert, alone, it’s night the stars and moon are shining brightly. She is alone now, her mother is gone.

Buffy: Mom?

She looks around.

Glory: Well..who do we have here?!

Buffy startled turns and sees Glory standing before her.

Buffy: Fluffy the Vampire slayer and she wants her mommy…well..sorry to disappoint you, but no Mom here…(threateningly) just me.

Glory punches Buffy hard in the face with a powerful punch. It makes Buffy airborne and sends her reeling back a couple of feet away. She drops to the sand passed out.

ACT 2

Scene cuts to Spike and Buffy on the porch. Shot of Spike. Close up of his face. Shot angles out again on him but this time a slender white hand is nudging him on his shoulder. It’s owner is standing above he and Buffy.

Victoria: William….William wake up.

Spike opens his eyes and squints. He sees Victoria bending down in front of him. She straightens up.

Victoria: You have to get up and come with me.

He motions his head downward and looks at Buffy then looks at Victoria.

Spike: Uh…kinda got my hands full right now Vic..(he smirks)

Victoria: That doesn’t matter.

Spike looks down at Buffy with affection, with this movement, Buffy stirs and snuggles closer. He smiles.

Spike (to Victoria) She’s gonna kill me when she wakes up you know.

Victoria (put off) Spike would you come on..we don’t have time for this, she needs your help.

Victoria grabs his arm away from Buffy and pulls him up with Slayer strength.

Spike: (startled) Hey…wait a minute….

He looks down and finds himself standing up he quickly turns around and sees that he is also still sitting in the swing holding Buffy. He sees both of them are still asleep.

Spike: (to Victoria) What…I don’t understand?

Victoria: You will..follow me.

She leaves the porch and walks to the tree. Spike follows. He catches a glance of the table with the teapot and saucers in the yard. Tara is gone.

Spike: What the…

Victoria: Around here (impatient) Come on!

Spike follows her behind the tree.

He finds himself suddenly in the desert. He looks down and Buffy is passed out in front of him. He looks up and sees Glory.

Spike bends down and grabs Buffy and shakes her.

Spike: Come on Slayer, can’t keep passing out on me like this…I need you…can’t fight this little hellion on my own now, COME ON !

He shakes Buffy and lightly slaps her face.

Spike:…Wake up… Now!

Buffy comes to but when she opens her eyes she’s not in the desert anymore, she’s in the sandbox at the park, still in her leather garb. She sits up suddenly and finds Xander standing in front of her.

Buffy: Xander..you’re here?

Spike is now sitting in the swing , he is dressed in the tweeds. Giles is mindlessly swinging like a child next to him.

Spike: He’s not really here…it’s an illusion.. (Motions to Giles) So’s this.

Looks at Giles swinging and smirks and says to himself more then Buffy

Spike: Still funny as hell though! (laughs a little)

Buffy is leaning up on her hands taking all this in, she brings her legs around and sits Indian style. She’s in the middle of the sand box.

Buffy: Like you dressed in tweeds isn’t?

Spike stops watching Giles and looks down at himself, the amused smirk disappears.

Spike: Well….

Buffy: I really don’t have time for this right now..where the hell are we?

Spike gets up and walks over to the box and sits down on the edge.

Spike: Best I can tell, it’s a dream love, and we’re both in it together.

Buffy: We are not together.

Spike: Said we were IN IT together, didn’t say we were together. Although I’m not the one who got so drunk last night that they had to be rescued from lying passed out in the cemetery for all the big bads of the night to eat as a nice midnight snack now..am I?

Buffy: What the hell are you talking about?

Spike: (smirks) Why you…of course.

Buffy: I did no such thing!

Spike: Oh really, look over there.

He motions to the left. Out of thin air between two trees the scene of them sleeping together on the porch appears.

Spike: How’d you s’pose you ended up spending the night with me then? (raises and eyebrow) Think you just volunteered? (laughs) He looks back at Buffy she glares at him angrily.

Buffy: I can’t remember.

Spike: Just as I thought.

Buffy: None of that matters right now. Giles and the others are in trouble and I think something is about to happen with Glory and the Knights and we, you and me and and Cordelia and the rest have to go and find them.

Spike: Does that mean you’re asking for my help?

Buffy: (glares at him clearly perturbed and looking caught) Yes.

Spike: (Stands up and claps his hands) Alright then! Let’s get started shall we?

Buffy: What the hell are you talking….

She looks around and she is now sitting in the middle of the desert not the sand box. It’s night again. She looks up and Spike is standing before her dressed in his usual black garb, he is also in the desert with her but he is standing in the Sun, it shines down on him, he raises his hands to the sky and lifts his head up at it looking like he’s soaking it in.

Spike: Oh man…this feels great! Really should be on this side Summers.

Buffy: Now I know I’m dreaming. How come you’re not going up in flames?

Spike: (smugly, looks down at her and shrugs) Made a choice.

Buffy: (looks at him like he’s insane) A choice… what choice?

Spike: A choice to be one of the good guys. Turn my back on evil. Save the world from big bads like me..I mean, what used to be.. me.

Buffy stands up and starts to walk toward him. She crosses over into the daylight and smoke starts to form on the leg that has crossed into the sunlight. Buffy startled pulls it back quickly and rubs it.

Buffy: What the…Oh my God what’s happened to me?

Spike: Sucks, don’t it..now you know how I used to feel.

Buffy looks at Spike as if she’s just been slapped.

Buffy: What do you mean by that.

Spike: What I mean Slayer, is that the tables have turned. What’s good is bad (points to her) and what was bad is good (points to himself) It’s all a part of the plan.

Buffy: What plan?

Suddenly the Primal Slayer pounces from behind on top of Buffy sending her to the ground. Buffy squirms beneath her and punches her in the face. The primal slayer punches her back.

Shot of Spike watching in the sunlight.

Spike: Hey! Jungleluv! Over here. Big bad vampire just standing about…better come get me.

Primal Slayer’s head snaps up and sees Spike. She growls. Spike vamps out and growls back. She leaps from Buffy toward Spike like a jaguar and pounces on him. They roll on the ground and when they come to a stop Spike is on top. He grabs her by the throat and looks down at her with a pleased smile while he strangles her. She’s about to loose her breath when he pounds her in the face with one hard punch. She passes out.

Spike hops up proudly and looks over at Buffy who is still in the dark and watching. She is sitting up recovering, on her knees now.

Spike: See that’s the way you gotta handle that one. She’s an animal. (smiles big) I like her! (Looks back at her once more) Though I don’t care much for her hair.

Buffy looks at the Primal Slayer on the ground and nods

Buffy: Embarrassing isn’t it?

She rubs her face where the Slayer punched her.

Spike walks back toward her. He walks up to where the sun and dark meet and puts his hand in toward Buffy.

Spike: Come on….we have to talk.

Buffy: Spike we don’t have time…I have got to save the others.

Spike: Look, you asked for my help and I am going to give it to you, but if you insist on running the show and doing things your way without stopping and listening to me, then pet…not only will you not be able to help them, you won’t able to help yourself either.

He gives her a stern look. She glares at him stubbornly and then reluctantly takes his hand. She stands up. He pulls her hand in the sunlight with him. Suddenly a huge arch shaped door made of hideous black twisted rod iron and rotted wood appears a few feet away from them. Buffy and Spike both look at it and watch as it opens. Victoria appears from behind it.

Victoria: It’s almost time.

Suddenly Victoria’s form changes into the Primal slayer and then in a flash a hundred different slayers transform from the first, the Chinese slayer, the New York slayer they all manifest one into each other one after another as Buffy and Spike just watch in awe. This continues until the last one stops at Victoria again.

Victoria: When the time comes, we’ll be here.

She reaches out and closes the door, the door disappears.

Just then a strong wind sweeps down on both of them blowing sand all around them.

Scene changes to Buffy and Spike on the porch.

The sun is up. It is pouring down on both Buffy and Spike now. The same wind in the dream suddenly sweeps across them hard. Both Buffy and Spike wake up with a start. Buffy looks down at her hand there’s sunlight on both it and Spike’s chest. She looks at him in disbelief.

Buffy: (startled) Oh… my God… it was real!

She touches his chest where the sunlight is freely falling and causing no harm and gasps.

Buffy: What…. Happened… to you?

ACT 3

Scene cuts back to Buffy and Spike.

Spike: Told you love, I made a choice.

Buffy is still sitting on his lap but sitting up now.

Buffy: That…was real..the dream it was all real?

Spike: Looks like. Come on Summers, get up, my damn legs have fallen asleep and now I’ve got a cramp.

She gets up fast and looks down at him still in shock. He stands up slowly and rubs his legs. He walks down the stairs, steps off the porch and walks into the sunlight. Buffy just stares at him in disbelief. He reaches his hand out to her.

Spike: Come on Summers, meant what I said..if you want to help the others, you’re gonna have to listen to me first.

She takes his hand he pulls her down the stairs off the porch she’s too startled to protest. She stops drops his hand and just stares at him.

Spike: Geez Summers, snap out of it..(perturbed) Come on!

Spike grabs her hand again and walks off with her in tow.

Scene changes to Buffy and Spike they are walking through the cemetery.

Buffy: Spike, where are you taking me?

Spike: Someplace important. Cool your jets, we’re almost there.

They come to a small chapel that’s directly behind the house. It’s white and the boards of it on the outside are chipped, weather beaten and deteriorating badly.

Spike: Oh look..(he walks up to the door and opens it revealing the inside which has a few pews on each side and a small alter with a cross up front.) We’re here.

He stands holding the door open for her and gives her a head gesture motioning her forward. She enters. Sunlight streams in through old stain glass windows and lights up the inside.

Buffy: Why here?

Spike: Well, cause it’s appropriate I s’pose. He walks in and motions her to take a seat in one of the pews. She sits.

Spike: Slide over a bit will you?

She does. He sits down next to her.

Buffy: So..now what?

Spike: Well, I’ve made my choice, now, you have to make yours.

Buffy: (irritated) * What * choice?!

Spike: Let me explain it to you this way. You’re the “Chosen One” and all …right?

Buffy just looks at him impatiently.

Spike: Ever stop to wonder who did the choosing?

Buffy continues glaring, doesn’t answer.

Spike: I mean, I can tell you right now it wasn’t the bloody uptight Watcher’s Council.

Buffy: Of course not.

Spike: Exactly who chose you then?

Buffy: The Powers that Be…I assume.

Spike: You assume right there. But it’s all your other assumptions about it that have got you in the fix you’re in now.

Buffy: (perturbed) * Really * don’t understand what you’re trying to say Spike.

Spike: What I am simply trying to tell you is this. You were chosen by this Power, the Power that created us all I imagine, Big bads and Slayers, humans anything and everything else in between. And this Power bestowed on you some pretty special little powers all your own..right?

Buffy: What’s your point?

Spike: My point is … do you really think this Power just bestowed these little slayer perks on you to leave you all on your own to shoulder the weight of all the big uglies of the world?

Buffy doesn’t respond she just looks at him.

Spike: You don’t really know, do you? And not only that you don’t really want to know because you’re too independent, like to do things your own way, don’t like to be told what to do now do you? (laughs out loud) God..you’re so much like me!

Buffy: I am in no way like you Spike. (disdainful)

Spike: Oh really? Wouldn’t be so quick with that assumption Summers. You see, when I was evil * I was * the end all and be all in my little world. Nothing ruled me, no one owned me and absolutely * everything * I did was for self. Even when I tried to do good things to impress you..still really selfish motives involved.

Buffy: You know…. I couldn’t agree more but * again* what’s your point?

Spike: My point is if you think you are the end all and be all when it comes to fighting evil that no one owns you and on every situation you come across you must absolutely rely on only yourself…what makes you any different from who I used to be?

She just looks at him and doesn’t answer

Spike: Long story short. You continue to shoulder things with out help and that little primal slayer inside you with the “bad do” is gonna take over and rule your little world….mark my word.

Buffy just looks at him. She has no response to that.

Spike: Look, you fight evil on a daily basis, you’ve got to know there’s another side to that right?

Buffy looks off into the distance. The scene with her mom in the kitchen from the dream she had the day after she died replays in her head for a moment. Buffy sees her self answering her mother instead of Spike.

Buffy: A Higher Power guiding us all…

Spike: Exactly. And He’s the Man with the Plan, way I figure it. The Head Power that be..I mean…is…Oh bloody hell…you get my point. (perturbed)

Buffy: So…what does any of this have to do with me making a choice? (really impatient now)

Spike: You say you know there’s another side but yet you still act as though you’re all alone, it’s all up to you. And therein lies the assumption that’s askew. And so here is you choice EITHER you choose to believe that the power you’ve been given stops and ends at you and you walk to your own beat and fail miserably OR…. you believe that there is a power much greater and far wiser then yourself. A power that will give you…

Buffy: (looking off in the distance again) what I need when I need it….

Spike (finishes) People to help you who were chosen to help you….

She is seeing her mother again. She finishes Spike’s sentence.

Buffy: Even from the most unlikely sources.

She looks up at Spike in dismay.

Spike: There you go…you’ve got it now.

He stands up and steps out of the pew.

Spike: Now be a good little Slayer and make your choice.

Buffy: Where are you going?

Spike: (smirks) Don’t’ worry, not far love, I’ll just be right out here. Gonna give you two some alone time.

He walks out and leaves and closes the chapel door. Buffy watches him leave the dismayed look on her face changes to realization. She slowly turns and faces the tiny alter. She looks up at the cross and studies it for a long moment. Tears form in her eyes, one rolls down her cheek. Suddenly a strong wind rushes past her even though there’s no place now for it to enter in. It blows her hair back and takes her by surprise. She wipes the tears from her face and simply nods.

Scene changes to Tara. She is standing in front of Spikes house looking up at it in confusion. She starts to walk up the walk way and suddenly breaks out into a huge sneeze. She grabs a tissue from her pocket and puts it up to her nose.

Scene changes to Spike sitting on the steps of the chapel. Buffy walks out of the chapel door and looks down at him.

Spike: All sorted out now?

Buffy just looks at him in anger and nods.

Spike jumps up from the step with gusto and bounces.

Spike: Alright then… GOOD….now let's go kick some HELLGOD BUTT, shall we?

Buffy just glares at him and walks off. Spike looks after her in confusion and then follows.

Shot of Buffy rounding the corner of Spike’s house. Tara is standing on the porch now looking at the porch swing.

Buffy: Tara!

Tara: Buffy! I had this dream, it was so weird..you were here and you were wearing that!….

Buffy: Tara, I know, it was real, just like we thought.

Tara: But Spike….

Spike comes around the corner. Tara sees him and stares at him in shock.

Tara: Oh..Oh my God….but…how?

Buffy: Look Tara, that’s not important right now. If the dream was real then what the cards showed were real and that means the Knights have Giles, Anya, Xander and…

Tara: (sobs) Willow…

Buffy: (nods and says comforting) Don’t worry..we’ll find them. But first we need to go to the Magic Box and see what the Knights left in that envelope!

Tara nods they walk off together. Buffy looks back, Spike is just standing there looking left out.

Buffy: (disdainfully) Spike!

Spike: What?

Buffy: (impatiently) Are you coming or not?

Spike: (smiles) I’m coming..of course.

He follows

Scene cuts to A desert Highway. Wide shot of a row of gray buses, about eight in all and one white pick up truck pulled to the side. The Knights are now standing off the side of the road in the beginning of a vast area of desert, dry bush, rocks, hills, scattered trees and sand. They are all standing at attention in several rows in front of the Elderly Knight.

Elderly Knight: Gentleman, the day we have been waiting for all these long years is less then 24 hours away. We did not come all this way to fail. Prisoners have been taken. The Slayer will come and when she does she will bring the key and the key will bring the beast and that is when my brothers….the beast and ALL her links will DIE! Such is the Will of GOD!

Knights: Such is the WILL of GOD!

Scene cuts to the Magic Box

Tara is bending down unlocking the door to the shop. Buffy and Spike are waiting. She opens the door and looks down on the floor in anticipation.

Tara: Buffy look, it is here!

Buffy quickly enters, bends down and picks up the brown envelope. She opens it hurriedly and pulls out it's contents. She unfolds it and lies it on the round table for all to see. Spike and Tara stand to either side of Buffy looking at the large unfolded piece of paper. It's a large detailed map of Nevada. Including terrain and small roads. There’s a red line that is drawn to a specific location which is circled. A note is stuck to the map. It reads:

Slayer.

Bring the key to this location at once or your friends will die.

Spike: Huh…looks like they've taken them too….(looks at Buffy)

Buffy: The desert.

Tara: Just like the dream.

Buffy: Tara, help me remember the cards of the future! What were they again?

Tara: Glory in the desert alone, um….you and Spike driving Giles car on a desert highway and….

Spike looks at Buffy surprised, Buffy just glares at him.

Tara: Oh and Cordelia and a man I didn't know in a white van?

Buffy: Yeah..that was it. Okay, but what does this mean? Why do they want us to come here?

From the door of the shop which was left open by the three when they first entered Sister Agatha answers Buffy's question.

Sister Agatha: For the Alignment.

All three in surprise look up at the nun.

Tara: The Alignment..isn't that the day that Glory….

A look of dread and fear comes over Buffy's face as she listens to Tara, she finishes her sentence.

Buffy: Will need the key in order to lock her out of this world forever.

Sister Agatha: Yes exactly.

Buffy: How do you know about this?

Sister Agatha: Yesterday a young Knight came to my convent. He risked his life by leaving his order with out permission to tell me that the Knight's of Byzantium had received word from their own hired sorcerers that the day of the alignment was to take place in the next 48 hours. That was yesterday.

Buffy: So that means..the day of the Alignment.. is tomorrow?

Sister Agatha: So it appears to be.

Buffy's expression becomes even more fearful.

Buffy: Tara…the Dagon Sphere…do you know where Giles put it?

Tara: Yes…it's in the safe. I.I..know the combination, I'll go get it now.

Buffy: Spike, you and I have to make a road trip.

Spike: Say no more. I'll need to go home first and get a few things. Where should I meet you?

Buffy: I'll be at your place in less then an hour in Giles car.

Tara comes back with the Dagon Sphere. Spike leaves.

Buffy takes it and looks up at Tara.

Buffy: Tara, I'll need you to stay here and wait for Cordelia and Gunn. When they get here, I want you to give them a drawing of the map. Do you think you could roughly make a duplicate of it for them before Spike and I leave?

Tara: I'll do better, I'll go get a copy made. It'll be here by the time you stop back by.

Buffy gives Tara a small smile.

Buffy: That would be great.

Buffy: (to Sister Agatha) What else did the knight tell you?

Sister Agatha: I'm afriad that was it, it was all he had time for.

Buffy: It's enough. Thank you for coming to tell us. I think we know what to do from here.

Sister Agatha turns to leave.

Buffy watches her and stops her.

Buffy: And Sister?

Sister Agatha (turns) Yes?

Buffy: I never did thank you for helping me that one night.

Sister: (shakes her head) Shouldn't be thanking me.

Buffy: (confused) Then who should I thank?

Sister: The gentleman who just left.

Buffy looks at the nun in surprise. The nun nods and smiles knowingly.

Sister: Good luck and God bless.

She turns and leaves.

Cut to the desert. Three knights open the back of one of the buses and pull the scoobies out one by one. They stand them in a row next to each other. All of their hands are tied behind their backs. They all look confused and befuddled.

The knights stand behind them. One orders them to move.

Giles turns and says to him over his shoulder.

Giles: I demand to know where you are taking us at once.

The knight: That is not for you to know…(he draws his sword and points it at Giles back) I said MOVE.

The scoobies begin to walk the knights push them out into the desert where hundreds of other knights are walking carrying equipment and such all in one long caravan on foot.

Scene cuts to Buffy. She's at her home now. She is in her bedroom grabbing things and putting them into a backpack. She is dressed in a white tank top and cackey utility pants. She picks up her cell phone from the dresser and makes a call.

Scene cuts to Dawn. She is walking down Rodeo drive with Cordy carrying a shopping back. She hears her phone ring and stops. She pulls it out of her jacket and answers.

Dawn: Hello?

Cut to Buffy, tears are forming in her eyes now.

Buffy: Dawn. Where are you?

Dawn: Shopping with Cordy on Rodeo. I found the coolest scarf…you are so gonna wanna borrow it….

Buffy: (smiles a bit through tears at the remark) Dawn…I have something to tell you.

Scene cut to Spike. He is in the cellar of the crypt. He is dressed in the an army green sweat shirt and army green utility pants. He is putting a green blanket into a u shaped camouflage bag. Near him is quite an assortment of all different kinds of army supplies. Sleeping bags, tents, canteens, electric lanterns, etc. Enough stuff to open a store.

Spike: (smiles) Knew this initiative stuff I stole would come in use some day.

He begins to grab some more things to throw in the bag.

Scene cut to Dawn. She has just hung up the phone with Buffy. She is now sitting next to Cordy on a park bench.

Cordy: Dawn, what is it…what did Buffy say?

There are tears in Dawns eyes which are now also filled with fear.

Dawn: It's time.

Scene changes to Buffy she pulls up in front of Spike's house he's waiting for her on the porch. He grabs his stuff and walks to the curb.

He walks up to the drivers door. Buffy looks up and glares at him.

Buffy: (irritated) What are you doing?

Spike: Driving

Buffy: Over my dead body.

Spike opens the door and pulls her out of the drivers seat with Vampire strength.

Spike: How bout instead, you let me drive and we keep the dead body count in this little happy duo down to one….MINE.

He has Buffy by the arm, she looks up at him with a death stare. He throws his stuff in over her shoulder into the back seat.

Spike: (Not phased by the look he says evenly) Now, now Slayer….if you behave yourself, I'll let you read the map.

He looks down at her stubbornly. She yanks her arm out of his hand and walks in anger over to the passenger side and gets in.

Spike gets in the drivers seat closes the door, puts on his seat belt and looks over at Buffy whose death stare has not let up one bit.

Spike: Wonderful…I can tell this is going to be quite the joy ride.

He starts the car and drives off.

ACT 4

Scene opens to Angel's Hotel. Angel and Cordy and Gunn and Wesley are sitting in Angel's office. Angel is behind his desk. There is a grave look of concern and worry on his face. Dawn is sitting in the lobby very timidly on the edge of the round lobby couch looking very lost and frightened. Angel is watching her.

Cordy: (quietly but demanding) I understand perfectly well why Wesley wouldn't go, he's still recouping…but Angel, you have to go, you can't just stay here! (anxiously) Buffy needs you!

Wesley: Cordelia, think about it, miles and miles of desert, the sun, he can't go! There will be no cover.

Angel: (very sadly) Not even that. I'm not suppose to go Cordelia, this is Buffy and Spike's battle, not mine. I've done my part. Now all I'm asking is that you do everything in your power to make sure that Dawn gets to Buffy safely and as soon as possible.

Gunn: I borrowed Anne's minivan…you know..from the shelter… We'll not only make sure we get Dawn to Buffy, but we'll make sure we get the rest of her gang back safe and in one piece as well.

Angel: Good thinking. There's going to be quite a few people that will need a ride home when this thing gets over with.

Gunn: Hey, I didn't come from a big family for nothing…not that we ever had a mini van…

Cordy: I guess I understand.

Scene changes to Buffy and Spike driving down a small two lane highway.

Spike looks at Buffy, she has body scooted up against her door as far as possible away from Spike. Her head is turned completely away from him. She is watching the scenery going by on her side of the car. He reaches over and turns on the radio. It blares some old rock and roll music. He smiles and turns it up. Buffy turns her head quickly and glares at him. She reaches over and turns the radio off in anger.

Spike just gives her a give me a break look. Buffy turns her head from him again. A moment goes by and then Spike starts to sing.

Spike: Bah..bam ba.ba.bah…I'm driving in my car….

Buffy glares at him.

Spike: (smiles at her and continues singing) I turn on the radio…

Buffy turns her whole body toward him now, the angry glare is tightening.

Spike: I'm pulling you close….

Suddenly Spike is hit in the jaw with a cross cut by the Slayer.

Spike: Ow! Bloody hell…all you had to do was say you didn't like Springsteen…. He rubs his jaw. She turns back away from him.

Scene cuts to Cordy and Gunn, they are now in the minivan on a major turnpike. Cordy and Gunn are seated up front. Dawn is sitting quietly in back.

Cordy: (turns to Dawn) Dawn…(hesitantly) I know how scared you must be.

Dawn: (in resentment) How could you?

Cordy looks at Dawn who says this while continuing to glare out the window.

Cordy unbuckles her seat belt and gets up from her seat and goes to sit on the bench seat next to Dawn.

Cordy: Dawn look at me.

Dawn reluctantly turns and looks at Cordy.

Cordy: (looks Dawn in the eye) Cause I'm scared too.

Cordy looks at Dawn seriously and puts her arms out. Dawn scoots over next to Cordy and lets her hug her there are tears in her eyes.

Scene cuts back to Spike and Buffy.

Spike looks over at Buffy. She is continuing to ignore him.

Spike: Okay Slayer, this is getting old, it's been two hours and aside from trying to reset my jaw, you haven’t said one word to me.

Buffy: Fine, I'll say three then.

Spike looks at her expectantly

She holds up a finger for each word.

Buffy: I. HATE. THIS.

Spike: Hate what's about to happen or (he looks off the road and over at her) hate being in this car and in this situation with ME?

Buffy: BOTH!

Spike: Very well then. Get the map out, I think we're getting close to the pull off.

Buffy gets out the map from the glove box and looks at it.

Buffy: How do you know?

Spike: Because the spot marked was approximately 100 miles from where this highway began. We've gone 98 miles since then.

She looks down at the map.

Spike: Wait, never mind

Buffy: What?

In the forefront the gray buses can be seen parked along the highway.

Spike: I think we found them.

Scene changes to the Scoobies. They are in a tent off in the very middle of the desert now. There are guards at the front of the tent. The Scoobies are sitting on the ground in a semi circle alone in the tent.

Xander: Giles, where the hell do you think we are?

Giles: I couldn't say before under so much supervision, but I overheard one of the knights mention the Alignment.

Willow: Giles isn't that the day that Gabr…she stops as Giles gives her a stern look.

Giles (nods) Be very quiet Willow..and yes, it is. I think it's happening tomorrow.

Anya: Where do you think Buffy is right now…isn’t she suppose to be here for that?

Giles: I assume they left a ransom note for us…I'm sure she's on her way.

Scene cut back to Buffy and Spike

They are on foot now. Walking through the desert. Buffy is carrying her back pack, her leather jacket is tied around her waist. Spike is following with his duffle bag, it's making noises as he walks. Buffy looks down at it.

Buffy: What's in that thing?

Spike: Stuff we might need, water canteen, lantern, tent…

Buffy: A tent? I am not staying in no tent with you.

Spike: Suit yourself Slayer, but if we don't find these blokes tonight, we're going to need some type of shelter. Get's very cold in the desert at night.

Buffy laughs

Buffy: How would you know?

Spike: Watched a few desert type movies in my time….

Buffy: Whatever.

Suddenly a strong wind kicks up from now where. The sun has not fully set yet. The camera pans to the horizon where a huge mass of dirt and sand can be seen rising. Buffy and Spike both look at this.

Spike: Oh just perfect.

Buffy: What?

Spike looks around and sees a small hill he begins to walk over to it.

Spike: Quick Slayer, over here.

Buffy: No..we have to go. She's watching the dirt whirling off in the distance.

Spike: NO.. (adamantly) we have to STAY… batten down the hatches until that storm passes or else.

He's at the foot of the small hill now and is hurriedly opening the duffle bag and pulling out the makeshift tent.

Spike: Now get over here and help me.

She puts her back pack down and unties her coat and lies them both on the ground. She walks over agitated.

Buffy: Great…this is just what we need.

Scene changes to the Elderly knight. He is sitting in a very elaborate tent. A knight runs in. When he opens the flap of the tent the dust storm can be seen. He enters and closes it..he is covered with dust.

The Knight ( in excitement) Sir! It's here!!

Cut back to Buffy and Spike. The storm is on top of them now. Spike has just put in the last stake. He opens the tent and climbs in, there is dust and dirt flying every where, getting in their faces, both are having a hard time seeing anything. Buffy is out away from the tent looking for her stuff she left. She is holding her arms to her face and can see nothing but brown dirt. She hears Spike call out for her.

Spike: (yells) Buffy, where are you?

Buffy: (yells in response) I'm over here, I gotta find my stuff!!

She looks around, but can not see anything. Suddenly an arm appears out of all the brown muck and grabs her. It's Spike, he picks her up and takes her back to the tent and drags her in.

Cut to inside the tent. There's a light inside it from the electric lantern. It's a very small tent barely enough room to sit up in and barely room for both of them.

Buffy brushes herself off and glares at Spike.

Buffy: Now what?

Spike: Don't know (shakes the dirt off himself as well)…s'pose we'll wait here til it blows over.

They are sitting across from each other. Spike has laid a blanket on the bottom of the tent. He picks up a canteen.

Buffy: What happens to our stuff out there.

Spike: Don't know..I was fortunate enough to grab what we have in here.

Buffy: Which is?

Spike: That lantern, this glow ball thingy (holds up the Dagon Sphere) this blanket and this…

He offers her a canteen. She refuses it.

Spike: Fine, suit yourself. He opens it up and takes a drink.

Buffy starts to look cold she shivers and wraps her arms around her legs and buries her head on top of her arms, trying to get warm and trying very hard not to look at Spike.

Spike: (perturbed) Alright, I've had about enough of this. You are going to stop this now.

Buffy: Stop what.

Spike: Ignoring me, and out and out disdaining me.

Buffy: (annoyed) And give me one good reason why should I do that?

Spike: Because we are not going to accomplish what we set out to do here if your attitude toward me is hateful.

Buffy: (argumentively) Why should it matter what my attitude is?

Spike: I'll tell you why it matters. Because the only way you are going to be able to defeat that hellbitch tomorrow is if there is a solid alliance between you and me.

Buffy: Oh yeah…well, I just don't see that happening Spike.

Spike: Only because you're so wrapped up into your own pettiness that you can't see that I'm different now. All you want to see is the Big Bad, well that's not who I am anymore Summers.

Buffy: Maybe that has nothing to do with it at all, Spike! Maybe it has everything to do with the fact that I am forcefully holed up by mother nature in a very small dark tent with a creature I loath who has a seriously deranged obsession with me which gives me such a large case of the creeps (yells) I wish I could just crawl out of my skin!

Spike: (yells back) Oh PALEASE!.. Really, has anybody ever told you you really need to get over yourself Summers?!

Buffy: And you're what? Trying to say I'm wrong? That you suddenly don't have creepy feelings for me anymore?

Spike: Not creepy…no, although I admit, I guess at first they were…

Buffy glares at him. He looks at her intensely..trying to break through to her.

Spike: Buffy look, I can understand what you are saying but I promise, I'm not that way anymore. And though my feelings aren't the same, yes, I still have them for you. But you have to believe me when I tell you I am * NOT* going to force myself on you, either you return those feelings or you don't. That is really all beside the point.

Buffy: Then the point is?

Spike: The point is I went to LA a few weeks back and found this scroll, Angel had it.

Buffy starts to speak.

Spike: Before you start to speak just listen. We were told by a psychic that the scroll foretold this very battle. It did. It said and I quote:

In the infancy of a new millennium, there will be a war waged between a combined alliance of the forces of this world and evil forces not of this world. This alliance will happen when the Slayer of this world…that'd be you…Summers…. combines forces with a dark creature, once her mortal enemy but changed and transformed by the light….and that would be ME.

Buffy just glares at him.

Buffy: What else did it say?

Spike: It said we would have to use a talisman called the Dagon Sphere, (picks up the Dagon Sphere) which I s'pose would be this thing… and combine our power along with the power of The Key to open the portal of this other world and force it’s evil back inside permanently locking it out of this world forever.

Buffy: (very angry) How come no one told me about this until now?

Spike: Because none of us could until you asked for help….from me…. It was all a part of the plan.

Buffy is shivering violently now. She just looks at him and starts to say something but then stops. She wraps her arms around herself for warmth.

Spike starts to take off his shirt. Buffy startled yells in protest.

Buffy: What THE HELL are you doing?!!

Spike stops for a moment and glares at her and takes it off anyway against her protest. He throws it at her.

Spike: Doing you a favor…and being misunderstood and unappreciated.. as usual!

Buffy just looks at the shirt, it's lying at her feet now.

Buffy: You take it, I don't need it.

Spike: Well I sure as hell don't need it..have you gone daft Summers..Hello… Vampire…no body temp!?

Buffy gives him a go to hell look, picks up the shirt and puts it on.

Spike: Look we've got a long day ahead of us. I say we just both lie down and get some sleep.

He lies down on the blanket and rolls to his side facing her. She just stares at him.

Buffy: You expect me to lie down next to…you?!

Spike: Do what you want, this is what I'm doing. (smirks) You can sit up all night and stare at me for all I care.

Buffy watches him as he lies down on his back and closes his eyes. She lets out an exasperated scream and turns with her back to him and lies down on her side. She is still shaking uncontrollably.

Spike: If you didn’t hate me so much, I could put my arms around you and help you with that you know.

Buffy: DON'T EVEN think about it….SPIKE!

Spike: Didn't seem to mind so much last night. Quite the opposite as I recall. Oh..wait, I forgot, you don't recall.

Buffy just stares off and shivers more.

Spike: Fine suit yourself.

Buffy: Spike!

He rolls over and wraps one arm around her and smiles big.

Buffy: Try anything and you die!

She slides back into his body reluctantly he snuggles closer to her.

Spike: (smiles even bigger) Right…anything you say love.

Buffy closes her eyes in anger, but then opens them again suddenly.

Buffy: Spike…

Spike: Yes?

Buffy: I hate you.

Spike: You do huh?

She moves even closer to him his grip on her tightens. She stops shivering and closes her eyes.

Buffy: * Really * hate you.

Spike: Good for you.

The scene cuts to somewhere in the desert. The storm is blowing brown sand everywhere. Suddenly from the mass of dirt a beam of bright white light cuts through the brown and opens up and an arched door with hideously twisted black rod iron and rotted wood suddenly appears.

Scene changes to Buffy and Spike they are in the tent asleep, Spike has his arm around Buffy. Buffy is lying with her back up against Spike’s chest they are curled up together in the spoon position, her head is directly underneath his chin. Close up of Buffy’s face.

Scene changes to

Buffy at Spike’s Crypt door she crashes through. Spike is sitting in his chair startled he stands up. Buffy enters, looking angry and dangerous.

SPIKE: Shoulda known it's you. Been nearly six hours.

BUFFY: Would've been less if I wasn't busy cleaning up your mess.

SPIKE :My mess? I just borrowed the doc.The mess was yours, Slayer. Yours and the boy's.

Buffy strides towards him purposeful, deadly. She pulls out a stake.

BUFFY: I'm done. You're a killer and I should've done this years ago.

SPIKE: You know what? Do it. Bloody just do it.

BUFFY: What?

SPIKE: End my torment -- seeing you every day, everywhere I go, every time I turn around. Take me out of a world that's got you in it.
(suddenly shouting) KILL ME!

Ripping off his shirt, he bares his chest to her. She raises her stake to strike, then hesitates. They lock eyes.

Then suddenly, Spike grabs Buffy and plants a KISS on her. Her stake clatters to the floor. She pushes him off, takes a step back; her face registering pure shock. Her hand goes to her mouth. Then her tongue licks her lips lightly.

And then she grabs his head, pulls his face towards hers, kissing him back, passionately now, pressing her body against his.

He pulls her head back ROUGHLY, thrusting her neck forward and kisses it. She MOANS softly.

BUFFY: I want you, Spike.

He presses his body against hers, running his hands down her back. She moans softly.

She claws at his bare chest, scratching him with her nails.

SPIKE: (overwhelmed) Slayer...

And then she pushes him hard, knocking him to the ground. She straddles him, grinding against him. She supports herself on her arms, brushing his face with her hair, teasing him.

Spike pulls her arms out from under her, so that she falls on his chest. He rolls her over, so that now he's on top. He kisses her passionately and in between his kisses she says.

BUFFY: Oh Spike. Spike I love you. God I love you so much...

SMASH CUT TO:

The tent. Buffy bolts up from underneath Spike’s arm.

Next to her lies a sound asleep Spike. Buffy’s eyes are wide with terror as she realizes that she's in love with Spike. She stares ahead, sick with the knowledge. She moans in utter torment:

Buffy: God, no. Please, no.

As she utters this she turns around and looks down at Spike, he is wide awake now and just heard every word she said.

Spike: What’s wrong?

Buffy: Nothing…it was just a nightmare.

Spike: No…(slow realization takes place on his face) not a night mare…(smiles at the realization) you had the dream..didn’t you?

Scene fades to black
